RRR’s WARNER CORNER CDs  – NOW JUST $10

Warner Corner CDYep, there is a CD to go with the radio program.

In its wisdom, RRR has reduced this golden oldie to just 10 bucks for subscribers.

The tracks are from the early days of the show – including ‘Withered on the Vine’; ‘Nobody’; and ‘A Xmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis’.

Warner Corner – Birds

Dan Warner at RRR

I came late to Richmond Fontaine – but Jeez they’re good. When my brother gave me ‘The High Country’ for my birthday one year, I was sceptical. I had liked all their records until that point, but concept records are hard to make work.

This one certainly does – I bloody love it.

Particularly this song. This performance would have to be one of my favourite Warner Corners of all time (that’s saying a lot, the show’s been going more than 15 years!).

Jane Hendry (Broads/The Tiger & Me) sings the haunting answering verse. Just makes you want to grab her hand and keep running…

Dan Warner – vocals and guitar; Jane Hendry – vocals and fiddle; Dave Evans accordion; Nathan Farrelly – Double Bass

The First Day

Well, we’ve finally started to mix down some of the tracks from the new record. Here’s a quick sneak peek of the second track on the album (of 12 tracks).

This one’s called Pretty Sally, some of you may have heard me play this one live once or twice.

Pretty Sally (First Look)

Anyway, this is what the album feels like…to me it feels good! Can’t wait to get some some new music outta my head and into your stereo.

If you’ve ever wondered what record producers actually do – this photograph may help to clarify. Here are my producers, Tim Harvey and Marcel Borrack, working on my record. That’s Tim on the right producing a piano part about to be played by Marcel Borrack, seated. Tim is saying, ‘don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing’ which is uncanny, because that’s exactly what Marcel’s piano playing sounds like. I can confirm, also, that Marcel Borrack’s sunglasses have been uninjured during the making of this record…

But once a year I get the chance to play a show with my old musical counterpart, Al MacInnes. We go back a ways. I think we played our first gig at The Skinny Dog in about 1988. By 1990 we were playing two nights a week at ye olde Tunnel Nightclub in the city – YES, THE TUNNEL. In those days we also played a regular at the College Lawn in Prahran… From there we went to our Tuesday night residency at Nick Wheehouse’s The Great Britain in Richmond. That’s probably around 1991. In those days the Great Britain was the greatest pub that side of the river. Checkerboard Lounge played on a Sunday; Kim Salmon on a Monday; Hoss on a Thursday. From there we went to The Punters Club (for eight years); then back to Richmond on a Tuesday night – The Corner Hotel.

Over a thousand gigs. That’s a lot. And a lot to celebrate. Come and celebrate with us on the 22nd of December. We’d love to see you. D
