On the Sunday 18th Dec 2011, Dan & Al will return to The Corner Hotel in Richmond for their annual reunion show. Dan (and Al MacInnes) were well-known in the ‘90s for their extended residencies in some of Melbourne’s best-loved venues: 4 years at Nick Wheelhouse’s GB (where over 200 people would come to hear Dan & Al of a Tuesday), 8 Years at The Punters Club in Brunswick St, and another 5 years at The Corner Hotel.
When Dan moved to the US in 1999, The Corner Hotel named the public-bar bandroom ‘The Dan Warner Room’. Nick Wheelhouse from the Great Britain describes Dan & Al’s performances:
‘Dan & Al are a powerhouse…they don’t play covers, they OWN them! How many acts can take a Jimi Hendrix tune and make it look insipid? Dan’s strength is his rhythm and perfect timing; Al’s his technical mastery. Together they are, in every sense of the word, an institution…a Melbourne institution’.
Here’s Dan & Al’s version of Nervous Norvus’s ‘The Fang’ recorded live in the studio for their debut album, ‘Isle of Hop’. Al enlisted the services of his fellow students at RMIT to animate the video (27 animators in all – including Dan & Al)
